1. Bond formation and internal energy
The bonds that molecules form with each other can be summarized as follows:
Intra Molecular Bonds (Bonds within molecules) Intermolecular Bonds (Bonds between molecules)
Ionic bonds van der Waal's bonds
Covalent bonds Hydrogen bond
Metallic bonds Molecule - ion attractions
Types of chemical bonds
For bond formation, either between atoms (intra molecular bonds) or between molecules (intermolecular bonds), energy is expended. The energy between bonds is the potential energy.
